What to Expect at an Eye Examination

Step 3 - Refraction - Your level of Farsightedness, Nearsightedness or Presbyopia

Your eye doctor uses an instrument called the phoropter to test your refraction. The phoropter tests various lenses against your eyes, so your doctor can determine the best power prescription for your eyeglasses or contacts, if you need them.
